He's played this card before, with some success.
Remember the Jersey Muslims "who partied on 9/11"? The fact that his cretin followers might be tempted to kill someone because of his lies means nothing to him. Or maybe he DOES understand that, and he just sees it as a way to dispatch his enemies. The image of "a filthy Muslim" celebrating the treacherous murder of decent Americans is a cold and cynical calculation.
The more I learn about this man the more I can see he is a low-life and a bottom-feeder. And the more his followers make excuses for him the more I understand there is no real difference between him and them.
