And yet he continues to consolidate his power and his public approval continues to climb.

Don't forget, we were a democracy when he was legally elected (even if it was only by an Electoral College technicality). And we are still a democracy. None of the constitutional means of removing him from office, 25th Amendment, Special Prosecutor or impeachment, have succeeded. Congressional elections have, to a certain extent, blunted his authority, but he is still firmly in charge and consolidating his power.

If he and his party survive the next election, for whatever reason, either he or someone very much like him, will continue to lead this country for the forseeable future. And it will all be strictly legal and completely constitutional; just like Germany in the 1930s.

Perhaps we have exactly the President we deserve, and precisely the Government we were inevitably doomed to get. Perhaps we need to face the reality that perhaps we don't have an incompetent or criminal President, or an inadequate Constitution. Maybe its the American people themselves who are fucked up.
