Unfortunately, vehicle-ramming attacks are appearing to become a newly favored method of terrorists. Wikipedia lists at least 100 in the past decade alone, with most of them occuring in the latter half; however, only half of these mentions are cited. The New York Times themselves has covered this, mentioning that a similar incident has happened in Seattle on Sunday as well. Being cheaper than airlines, it's no wonder extremists are drawn to this. However, with the majority of these incidents, I can find none that resulted in the perpetrator escaping justice. The 21st Century seems to have its cities too well charted for that to occur.
Overall, hit-and-run tactics, while resurgent, have been popular for years - the problem with them nowadays is people think they can still run.
