Well, NASA does NOT control the media...
And no matter what the media says, IF attempt to falsify scientific data on that scale was made it would very quickly become apparent. Little inconsistencies would start piling up, and gaining more and more attention... I stand by my position- unless you shut down the entire scientific process it would simply not be practical to attempt such a thing.
HUGE political and economic interests tried to suppress the science of climate change... they may have swayed a few rubes in the public, but the science kept marching on.
