And the Russians are already in Kiev. And they are only using a fraction of their forces, keeping over half in reserve.
Pictures from the front can be misleading, many of the destroyed vehicles could be Ukrainian. And of course, reports from the front lines are always sketchy, incomplete, and full of wishful thinking, propaganda and outright lies--from both sides.
The Ukrainians appear to be fighting well, and their retreat is well-ordered and disciplined. Their command and control appears to be still functioning. But the result is a foregone conclusion. They will be rolled up in just a few more days. Still, it looks like its not going to be a walk in the park for Putin, the defenders are brave, well organized and highly motivated. Still, the fighting appears to be fierce, and I understand the Ukrainians have less than a week's worth of ammunition and no source of supply. This will be no rout, I feel they will fight effectively until they run out, which probably will be, at most, a few days.
The post-war scenario will probably be guerilla-style and may drag on for months. Putin will win, but I suspect he will pay a higher price than he bargained for.
Its sad. so sad.
