Sadly this is not new
Let's not forget the utter insanity of republicans holding the debt ceiling hostage twice during the Obama era. Literally threatening to destroy the global economy with a self-inflicted wound if they didn't get their policy demands met. Their massively irresponsible and irrational behavior actually led to America's credit rating being downgraded. Watch for this to happen again next year if the GOP takes back the House of Representatives.
