Ever since the school segregation wars of the 1950s
racism has been growing in the USA, simultaneously with the rise of civil rights and other progressive movements. Each acted as a spur to the other. By the turn of the century, it finally looked like we had turned the corner, when Obama was elected it finally looked like the forces of evil were routed, the good guys had won.
But over the next eight years I saw the forces of Trumpism on the ascendant, even before there was a Trump. By the time he was out of office the country was divided. We were divided on a lot of issues; political, cultural, social, economic, religious, but the place "where all the circles in the Venn diagram intersected" was always race.
