Off Topic » in reply to Does the water product of hydrocarbon combustion add to sea level rise?--for RobVg (originally from Mysteries of the Multiverse)

I guess I misunderstood Rob's question in my replies?

But an excellent discussion.

It continues to amaze me how the proven effect of human produced greenhouse gas warming the atmosphere and oceans continues to be blamed on something else. "It's orbital cycles!" No, it is not. "It's changes of solar radiation!" No, it is not. "Volcanos?" Nope. "Radiation from nukes or nuclear power?" Again, NO.

Anything to blame but us. Us. Humans. We did this. It started long before the first oil well. It started by burning coal. Burning wood is sort of a net sum; just so long as the number of trees sequestering carbon is equal to the amount being burned.

I blame myself. We all should. Sure, my current car currently gets 80 miles per gallon, minimum, but I've driven many cars for many decades that used far more than that. And I don't drive much anymore. But I did in the past decades. Sometimes driving just to drive. Remember how the Sunday Drive was a thing? Or cruising up and down the city's main drag just to meet girls? And I have flown a lot. And I do mean a lot. There were years that I flew 30K miles a year.

"I'm responsible for accelerated climate change." It's like the twelve steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. First, admit there is a problem, and that I'm responsible for it. Except, there is no "higher power" to helps us. Few, even those who agree with the science, will make that admission. I apologize and am working to be better.
