Iceland is on a hotspot.
Similar to Hawaii but the plate it's on is not moving so Iceland just keeps getting bigger (albeit in geological time frames) instead of spreading out like Hawaii into a lot of islands. I was in Iceland about a month ago. It has a barren beauty to it that is striking. And Reykjavik is a very cool fun little city. I will definitely go back and I highly recommend it as a vacation spot.
