That is really what it all boils down to for the vast majority of Trump supporters. Even the ones who didn't like Trump at first, they LOVED that he drove liberals crazy. The loved him for the simple reason liberals hated him. That's all it took. Owning the libs was and is more important than anything: Democracy, the constitution, the rule of law, NATO, their own self proclaimed christian morality. None of it matter as long as liberals were and are freaking out. I have a republican friend who told me as much when he said "I don't really like Trump but I hate the people who hate him way more."

And of course Trump brought out the worst tendencies in his followers. They had suppressed all their prejudices for decades only to feel liberated in expressing them again with Trump's ascendance. Another guy I knew stopped being best friends with a liberal friend of mine because he wanted to openly express his racism without being criticized for it. There's a reason all the white supremacists like to swing on Trump's nutsack: He's one of them and they love him for it.
