But if the mob had brought guns and killed or took hostage members of Congress, I fully believe the national guard or maybe even the military would have come in and dropped the hammer on the insurrectionists. Trump and everyone speaking and inciting at his rally would have been arrested, trialed and jailed. (That should have happened anyway and it may still.)

And the election certification would have happened at some point soon afterwards once the situation was secure.

Seriously you guys, you can't actually believe a rightwing coup would go unchallenged? Even if it was successful for a few days or weeks, it would not withstand the rage it would produce in its opponents. America is not Gilead.

I certainly believe there needs to be laws passed to make sure this madness never happens again. Fixing the electoral college act is step one.
