If you take the time to track down some of his old interviews, late-night show appearances, and other speaking engagements, he comes across as a much quicker, more articulate speaker. Regardless of the content, his mental agility and expression, even his logic, vocabulary and sentence structure, has suffered greatly over the last twenty or so years. To me it appeared to be an obvious mental deterioration, perhaps one with a purely physical cause, like a hormonal or vitamin imbalance.

At first I thought he was deliberately dumbing himself down to appeal to his base, but now I think its just the opposite: he finally sank to the level where his base found him appealing.
