Malibu, Zuma, Point Dume, Topanga and the surrounding coastal area is some of the most scenic and iconic real estate in America. There is absolutely no way it will ever be abandoned by the affluent people who want to live there. Nor should it.
Consider all the other places in America where disasters are common. Fire zones exist all across the western third of the US. Houston built huge tracks of homes on flood plains. Midwest homes in tornado zones. Cities built on earthquake faults. Coastal towns in Tsunami zones. Homes near volcanos. New Orleans protected only by levies. The entire state of FL in the path of annual hurricanes.
Residents of Malibu pay a lot for fire insurance. Enough said.
