Information seems to be very fundamental to physics, look at all the debate over the black hole Information paradox. Look up quantum information theory, and Erik Verlinde's work claiming gravity arises from information theory...

I personally feel such theories that consider information fundamental are much closer to the 'truth'... but given this isn't my field and that the math is beyond my education that opinion shouldn't really count for anything... :)
