Rubbish. That may be the case in the UK, but in this country its the fundowackos who have declared war on science and reason.
Although Darwinism and religion can coexist (as it does for many believers of many faiths), Darwinism and the literal interpretation, hence the infallibility, of Scripture are incompatible. (So are astronomy, geology and biology). Without infallibility, divine origin goes out the window, and without THAT, literal interpretation of the ancient texts cannot survive. The fundamentalist meme cannot tolerate even the slightest deviation from slavish unequivocal acceptance.
The best way to deal with fundamentalists is to ignore them. Unfortunately, now that they have allied themselves with fascist politics, that may no longer be possible.
