I worked my way through the University of Minnesota. I had a loan, but it was maybe a couple of thousand dollars over the whole time.

You can't really do that any more. It costs way too much and it's getting worse. My son had over a thousand dollars added to his tuition bill between the time I got the first copy and the second.

One thing that has happened is that the subsidized loan process has done the same thing to school costs as subsidized housing loans: Massive increases in prices that were not justified by the market. Seriously, are we getting that much more education now for our money than we were thirty years ago?
