Thanks for posting that. In my experience people were opposed to homosexuality in the abstract. If they didn't know a man was homosexual it didn't matter, obviously. And if they knew the man and he turned out to be homosexual, well, they already knew him and it didn't matter. In close quarters it can come out when a wallet falls open or letter is left open.
And a lot depends upon the leadership. When their attitudes are are known folks go along with them.
