I think there's a basic assumption which is optimistic. That is that the Republicans want to solve problems. It's clear they don't. The no compromise branch of the party is in power, as evidenced by 42 Senators being made to sign a pledge to block anything Obama proposed.
I have to say, based upon evidence, the only interest the Rs have is to transfer wealth to the wealthy as fast as possible. The rest of the problems we face are important only as they affect that transfer.
