Jingoism. Taking a group of rational, decent people, who are the salt of the Earth under more normal circumstances, who you'd trust with your life, and turning them into an unreasoning mob.

This is the sort of thing that leads to the very worst the human race has to offer, self-righteous lynchings for example.

Tragic. What it does to the victims, and to the perpetrators.

There is so much good America could have done for people as the only superpower. Schools, roads, hospitals, etc.

Cheap drugs, for instance. Water facilities for another. Fresh water is going to be one hell of a problem, even in the US. How about improving that infrastructure.

Nope. 11,000 foot runways in Qatar, billion dollar facilities to be left behind in a couple of years.
