Re: Issuance of a NOTME
Mr. Kringle, as you may, or may not be aware, Keck observatory utilizes a laser to create an artificial guide star for use with our adaptive optics program. This laser is a class IV laser, and as such constitutes a potential eye hazard for aviation personel. Due to this fact Keck is required to file a Notice to Air-Men (NOTAM) with the FAA. As a result of an unfortunate accident involving Ms. T. Fairy, (see Tooth Fairy Vs. Keck), we are required to additionally issue a NOTME (Notice to Magical Elves).
Accordingly, we are informing you we plan to propagate the laser on the nights of Dec. 23-26. Please exercise caution when flying near Mauna Kea, Hawaii on those nights, as we would hate to propagate the laser on DASHER on DANCER on PRANCER and VIXEN or on COMET on CUPID on DONDER or BLITZEN.
On an unrelated note, if Rudolph will be guiding your sleigh those nights, we would like to request that he dims his nose so bright, as it interferes with our observing.
-Regards
