my friend teaches in an inner city classroom

My buddy is retiring at age 55 this spring. He's taught Jr High science in a school system with economically disadvantaged kids. This article hits it right. No discipline. Why? First because frankly many of the kids have none at home. And at school it's because the threat of litigation has emasculated the principals, political creatures not the least bit concerned with daily lesson plans. When it comes to educational issues, the teachers union is a joke except for pay raises, property tax overrides and campaigning for sympathetic Democrats.
