When I was posted in Constanza, Romania
Which is a port and resort city on the Black Sea I had to attend a reception.
The reception was held in an exact replica of the Grand Casino in Monte Carlo.
It was built during the rule of the then late and unlamented communist dictator.
He built it to prove that commies could party with the best of them.
It never worked, of course.
When I went there in 1993 the carpets were threadbare, the curtains ragged, the casino totally non-operating.
It did have a marvelous location on the Black Sea and a great view.
I have no idea what they use it for today.
