Re: Wooden Shipwrecks

Ballard has been in the Black Sea area doing wonders with is discovery team.

I remember watching a program on the science channel of Ballard's discovery of a sunken wooden shipwreck that was still intact including the mast standing upright. It was found in 1000 feet deep water where there is no oxygen so the worms and organisms that eat wood cannot survive. This shipwreck was said to be dated 1500 years ago.

No mention of the depth of this current shipwreck. Was the Black Sea oxygen abundant at all depths 1000 years ago? Ballard's discovery of shipwrecks could hold clues to the formation of the Black Sea.

Thanks for the article, with work back to high gear I don't have time to search the web as much and or read many post here.
