I'm convinced that French culture is incompatible with warfare
France is a great country, for those dedicated to enjoying the finer things in life. But there's no denying the long, tragic history of French wars. One of the most catastrophic episodes, in fact one of the biggest military disasters ever, was Napoleon's misguided attempt to invade Russia in 1812. Napoleon entered Russia in the Summer of 1812 with the largest army in history, about 500,000 soldiers. Six months later, only 10,000 cold, hungry, exhausted Frenchmen made it back to France.
