Re: Cool New Tech

I am not impressed. I mean almost every telecom device has multiple Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports. Sending file xfers, whatever their content, at 1 Gbps is routine in the campus LAN and metropolitan area. Telecom backbone providers have 10 Gbps (known as OC-192 in SONET parlance) links, or more commonly DWDM links of N x OC-48 (2.5Gbps) totalling much faster than 10Gbps. It's just about the $, paying for the service at today's prices which have little relation to the cost.

The resaon we do not have superfast fiber to the home is the lack of business capital to pay to dig up everything in the 'last mile" and replace copper with fiber to the premise. That $ is not there because the junk bond market collapsed and nobody believes that they'd get their MASSIVE investment $ back any time soon. Gotta pay those union rates for that kind of work done with early 20th century technology, shovels and backhoes.

I do like the battery advances though. Tip of the iceberg.
