Liberals in California, who long advocated the "Robin Hood Principle," have found that it is a two-edged sword, or whatever the analogy for a longbow would be.
Teachers and school administrators, largely Democrats, are rallying against a proposal that would divert huge chunks of property taxes normally used for local schools to state coffers. Only from those districts wealthy enough to afford it, of course--including mine. The heart of Silicon Valley was rolling in business and property taxes a couple of years ago, and spent like it. It remains to be seen if this will pass. If it does, a local tax increase will be on my ballot in June to make up for it. Ouch.
Also, those who have installed solar electrical systems may find themselves subjected to an additional fee to make up for the state's energy costs. Naturally, this is because those who can afford to install such systems are seen as being able to afford such fees.
Frankly, both ideas for raising money are stupid in the extreme, but hey, I didn't vote for Davis.
Live by the longbow, die by the longbow
