An ego can't understand ANYTHING besides right and wrong, winning and losing, good and bad.
It certainly doesn't understand fealty to a power greater than oneself.
Except bombs and bullets.
The man who eats meat on Friday and thanks his God for it is holy - the man who fasts on Friday and offers this sacrifice to the God of his choice is holy.
But as a miser cannot understand charity, the ego cannot understand fasting and/or prayer.
George Bush is easily humiliated - and you can't humiliate a humble man.
