most scientists go to conferences.... and give talks... I did it few times... If you are full of BS you will be ripped a new one by many, and have it done in front of most of everyone in your field....
I gave a talk in a conference presenting new results.... my hands were shaking so much that I didnt dare to use a laser pointer for fear of blinding my audience.... <my first conference> I got grilled and it was so strenuous I felt like collapsing afterwards, I answered the questions ok I was told later....I turned out to be right and did have the presence of mind to defend my position....but trust me no decent or respected scientist will willingly publish BS.... I have seen people purporting BS get skewered by their peers.... it REALLY is agonizing to watch, and must be hell for the victim....
Do some charlatans play for politics? YES, but their peers see them for what they are- only the press gives their ideas creedence...
Phil, I am NOT an atmospheric scientist.... but I can say that I do believe that global warming is real....I have not one thing to gain by saying this.... no grants relating to it.... and I hope all of you know by now I do not latch onto political bandwagons...I have just read the journals and tried to evaluate the validity of the evidence...
Sometimes science is used for politics, but in science <at least the hard sciences> politics is not an issue....
It is funny, I have given many talks and I always "black out" during them... I apparently do ok but I have NO memory of what occurs during them... It is like I lose conciousness
Anyone have this problem?
