Managed to knock it down a few thousand by dumping a load of money into the SEP IRA. Still could have gotten a new car instead.

Still, I figure a year when I don't have to borrow money to pay the taxes is a good one.

I will have to admit the electronic filing is really cool. I have to send NO PAPER at all, except a tiny preprinted form with my checks. I get immediate feedback that the info has been safely received...no postage, no certified mail, no hassle.

The California tax people are a bit odd. I am ordered to have my wife and I sign a form, attach a W-2 to it, and then file it in my own filing cabinet. Go figure.
