The United States of Earth

In the future, everything is so clear. No one argues about the wisdom of past decisions and the benefit for all humanity of the way events unfolded.

When one returns to the past, your present, one sees the squabbling and bickering and the day to day uncertainties that make up that endless parade we call history.

I am a historian. In the future, historians are granted limited access to the time-stream for purposes of research. Fortunately, I am very hearty and can survive in eras when disease was not eradicated, when electronic healing was entirely unknown and when folks thought the universe was formed as a sort of cosmic hiccough.

From my childhood It was already known I would travel into the past. It was already archived. The planetary states inform parents after the first year of life.

I received an exemplary education as a result. I was immersed in detailed and obscure historic facts and customs. Taught to memorize the political landscape and imaginary borders which have long since been rearranged.

I can interact freely within the parameters of my own known history. Changing the future is impossible because my presence in the past is simultaneously a part of the future.
It is somewhat anticlimactic to grow up and be told what you are going to share with the world. Especially when the principles shared are taught to me by the word to share with the world.

Such awareness has a very healthy effect of keeping the ego in check.

I have toyed with history a bit. Tried to see if I could change events. But even if I could succeed, I would never know it and would simply generate a new time-stream vector - an offshoot of the original.

I age a bit differently here. Something to do with planetary positioning and relative speed in its travel through the cosmos. I age slower, a decade here seems about two years to my cells.

In the future, the earth has increased its relative motion to the center of the galaxy. If I were to travel farther into the past I could live for a thousand years or more and be considered a magician like Merlin. Traveling into the future is dangerous for the very same reasons. At first it was thought that some radiation was causing premature aging, then as time-stream travel became more common the scientific basis for aging anomalies was chronicled and understood.

It is amusing sometimes to feel like one is blessed with some form of omniscience, but upon my return I will be graded as to how well I performed my services, even though the results are known my own journals and travels will be published in the future to give the citizens a closer look into the past through parameters and references of one who can accent the disparities.

The accomplishments of George Bush are well known. Seeing how many folks dislike and revile him from their limited perspective is enlightening. History has tended to downplay the dissent to his history-changing policies. I try to imagine how I would feel if I did not have the benefit of the outcomes of his decisions. Would I support a war in Iraq without knowing how it leads to mideast peace and democracy?

In the future almost everyone would be considered a conscientious objector. Violence is very rare and almost never lethal. Yet they understand the need for violence in a primitive world of many diverse nations, many peopled by humans with no education to speak of and an almost animalistic bloodlust.

I like the past. I like the dangers of disease, observing the body's ability to catch and overcome infection. Seeing motor vehicles traverse the asphalt strips in a great array of individuality and the reliance of thousands of individuals' personal control and responsibility to make it function smoothly and doing all of this with smiles and laughter while thinking they are to eventually going to return to nothingness, without a future, much as they envision the fate of their universe.

Yes, the past can juxtapose favorably to the future if one knows which elements to align for viewing.

In the future one can buy data packets about the 'habitablezone.' It has a cult following like Star trek does in this time period. Many folks of the future will learn from the arguments here and some threads will even be taught to children developing their social skills. Some of the debates here are even performed as 'past' theatre - believe it or not.

Each of my posts seems familiar to me as I write it - in part because I already read them once dispassionately as a child of 8. They mean much more to me now - as they are formed from within my consciousness.

As a matter of fact, I remember that last paragraph very well and always wondered where I would be when I finally write it. Now I know.

Best wishes to all HZ-ers,
