I heard one preacher explain the difference between the Old Testament and New Testament God by reminding us of how you get a mule's attention.
Well, maybe.
During the time of the Old Testament, Yahweh was just one desert god competing with many others. It's interesting that early Old Testament references to other gods and worshiping none but the True God never seem to say anything along the lines of "there actually ARE no other gods." Just that the Jewish one is the top of the heap.
