Do you know what bothers' me? In San Diego we lost at least a dozen professional pilots, one FAA official and several trained amateur pilots in single engine accidents in about ten years time from 1990-2000.
The design of single engine planes is so inferior, it is like asking people to ride around on giant 1910 monocycles instead of bicycles!
I know the market and the costs are prohibitive for everyone to be flying jets or dual engined planes - but it seems it is always these fragile little 'kites with propellers' that are getting good people killed.
I wish this seemingly very nice woman and astronaut, and the plane owner, the very best - and I am not a praying person - but I do believe in the wonders of positively biased intelligent energy wave forms - of which I send her way.
I refuse to fly in single engine planes. I only fly in dual engine prop planes if I know the pilot and the plane. I don't fly in old helicopters - and all with very good reason - the odds are stacked against you.
Some of the most talented pilots - good men and women - are killed by the inferiority of the machine.
Anyone working in aerospace or with high speeds is often tempted to acquire their own plane, race car or motorbike and take more risks. I have lost friends to inferior machinery.
Human life is simply too precious too take careless risks - no matter how talented or qualified the pilot.
So everyone - BE CAREFUL.
That rant finished - I give you back to your normal BBS...
