While we're still stuck on terra firma...

...I might bring to your attention some "amusement rides"
that mimic some of the effects of space launches/ascents.
One such ride, [The Superman?], at "Magic Mountain" in Southern California, apparently produces upto seven seconds
of near zero-g for [I guess] the thousands of people who have taken that ride...Thus, they, are the [fortunate?]
ones who've experienced more than a second or two of
microgravity. Still a small but growing group.

At the other end of the spectrum is?...The Texas Tornado: A roller-coaster which briefly generates
upto six-g's of force on your body.

If you think you have what it takes to become an astronaut, try going on one of these rides. If you can't handle it, forget the idea of becoming an astronaut.

Incidently! LarryJ? I have this whimsical dream,
however much of a fantasy the idea appears, into turning
"Pike's Peak" into a sloped natural foundation for an "amusement ride", using electro-linear induction motors, to
generate upto 20 seconds of zero-g, for passengers
in streamlined & sealed compartments, dropping 6400-feet
upto speeds of 450mph, before they experience 20 seconds
of g-forces upto four, dropping another 3,200 feet in altitude.
Of course, when you calculate, perhaps a 45 degree
slope for the trestled-rails of this fantasy high-velocity "roller-coaster" on Pike's Peak, the actual max-velocity would be 450mph[Sin(45)]: about 630mph. Maglev anyone?

Financially and politically, it's a "fantasy", but not
technologically.

cheers.

Jake.
