I worked on, ordered parts for, issued parts for, guarded, prayed for the safety of, and flew in both of these beautiful birds when I was in Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 362 ("Ugly Angels" - HMM 362, MAG 36, 1st MAW) in Ky Ha, South Viet Nam. The time was 1966 and 1967. I spent two tours over there.
These Sikorsky UH34 Helicopters have both been restored to pristine condition. They are living memorials to our Squadron 'shipmates' who gave the last full measure of devotion to their country.

These critters were powered by a 1,525 horsepower Wright R-1820-84, nine-Cylinder, Radial engine. It burned 115/145 AvGas (AKA "Purple Flash" cleaning Solvent.) The avgas came in handy for chilling beer. Just drop several cans in a bucket of it and stick the airhose in it. The cans had to be thoroughly washed before drinking. (That usually occured only on about the first three cans. After that, you began to get sloppy!) :0
