OK I read the releases Alex posted about the need for a new MSR lab. Folks, people working in hazard class 4 facilities don't want their samples contaminated either. It really kind of destroys your research when you don't know what you are growing. Maximum possible containment versus minimal contamination are contradictory as the report indicates, but we can go with an existing hazard level 4 facility from a risk standpoint. I say again it sounds like a waste of taxpayers money to build this extra facility that gains us nothing in hazard reduction and simply reduces the contamination level from one that is already low. This sounds like scientists wanting shiny new labs with the highest possible accuracy without any real cost benefit analysis. It would be nice if the full report were online like previous related ones so we could more fairly evaluate these issues.

PS The key issue doesn't sound too hard to explain in brief to me, but then again it didn't take all that long to read either.;-)
Overblown MSR Report
