Apples and orangutans

Marcia, your quoted article refers to carbon monoxide, not carbon dioxide.

It's very simple:

CO is carbon monoxide. It is a pollutant. It does not trap heat.

CO2 is carbon dioxide. It is not a pollutant. It does trap heat.

CO2 is NOT a pollutant. Plants breathe it like we breathe oxygen. Without CO2, life as we know it would not exist. Pollution harms life, whereas CO2 does NOT harm one single lifeform at present or predicted levels. It cannot credibly be labelled a "pollutant" in any shape, way or form by ->knowledgeable<- journalists, environmentalists, bureaucrats or politicians - but that's assuming there are such creatures on this Earth.

As for the satellites not lying, the NOAA's TIROS-N range of sats has measured virtually NO atmospheric warming since 1979. This is an IMPOSSIBILITY, if the surface has indeed warmed substantially over the last twenty years. There should be lots of atmospheric mixing and heat exchange, as also predicted by all current climate models. There should be major tropospheric (up to 5 miles up) warming happening ->in tandem with<- surface (up to 1 mile) warming because of this simple convection. It's basic physics - hot air rises.

But the lower atmosphere isn't warming. The climate modellers are stumped.

But maybe the base assumptions are wrong. Maybe the surface is not warming, but only ->appears<- to. Maybe there are errors in the surface record, like poor-quality data from Third World countries covering mega-cities like Mexico City, Beijing and Calcutta (all major urban heat sinks), wrenching and spiking that "global" temperature trend upwards, where all-too-real and measured ->local<- warming is incorporated into global temperature datasets that are then used and abused to "prove" there's some sorta global greenhouse thing happenin' - when it ain't.

"Global warming" is a horrible, horrible farce and I fear for the future as environmentalists, bureaucrats or politicians all jostle for power and control to "save the world" from this phantom menace (with apologies to George Lucas).
