Cassini mission altered to salvage data
LOS ANGELES - Scientists said Tuesday they will redesign the Cassini mission as the spacecraft hurtles toward Saturn to avoid losing data from a probe it will drop onto the planet's moon Titan in 2005.
Mission planners will delay releasing the Huygens probe from Cassini until February 2005, during the spacecraft's third orbit of Saturn. The probe was originally to have been released in November 2004 during Cassini's first spin around the ringed planet.
