Question on Earth's magnetic field
Didn't Luna also influence the flow of currents in the Earth's core, and thus the Earth's magnetic field?
I also believe that all forms of communication restricted to a liquid medium (i.e. a Waterworld) would greatly inhibit the development of intelligent species, as opposed to land based life forms communicating in a gaseous medium (i.e. speech as we know it)
