Why travel at 0.5 % of c? Use a linear accelerator to provide a "stiff breeze" and ride a particle beam to 30% of c. If you're worried about impactors then you'll never go.
Cast a dust cloud ahead of you, back it with a plasma shield and then an ablation disk. Anything big enough to get through will kill you just as easily at 1500 km/s, but will be rare as rare between the stars.
