The [comet dust] fell [ plunging through the upper atmosphere] over Alabama.
The scientifically accurate revision
of the famous song "The Stars fell on Alabama" doesn't have that same ring to it. Oh well...Science has never been good at expressing itself poetically, only prosaically.
