Is That A Loss?

Is it really a loss if we loose a more expenxive form of supercomputer? Have guys that can use linked PCs been subsidizing the production of models for those that can not? These are real questions that I don't know the answer to. I know it seems sad for a pioneer's day to have passed, but that's the way progress often works.
