Re: The Apollo legacy

Hi, Del!

It didn’t help the Apollo program that Richard Nixon was president at that time. He had no enthusiasm for it because of its association with President Kennedy. The result of course was it was shut down after only 6 flights.

Richard Nixon being president when Apollo came to fruition had nothing to do with it's demise/closure. The majority of the (adult)American public, didn't think it was longer a worthwhile venture... tax dollars being spent... during the Vietnam war. Other social problems in the US during that time didn't help either. Apollo was the best thing to happen for the moral of the country and Nixon knew it.

I agree with Raoul... the inspirational and aesthetic value of the Triana mission wouldn't hurt. It's built, it's ready, they should fly it. However, I prefer it flies under the name Triana.
