HOW ABOUT SOMETHING THAT MIGHT WORK.

I’ve always considered a spectacular art project that would be technically doable, though very expensive. It would also probably need some political backing to get all the approvals.
A simple description: launch a payload of sand of various compositions from the cape for a flight part way around the earth. At the halfway point, or so, eject the payload in a way to spread the sand over many miles. It would be designed so that the sand would reenter the atmosphere just over the West Coast and create a spectacular meteor shower. The different sand compositions would be for different color meteors. It could be timed to occur at midnight new years, or on the 4th of July.
Maybe not. This could be dangerous to spacecraft that might be in the way. Although if it is sub-orbital it need not get over 90 miles or so. I don’t know of any spacecraft that fly that low.
