2001 Mars Odyssey MARIE

MARIE, while "less glamourous" than the two other experiments on board (GRS and THEMIS) is important nonetheless. Remember, there is a fourth science goal (in addition to Life, Climate, and Geology) to NASA's Mars Exploration Program; namely, Preparation for Human Exploration of Mars. MARIE, despite being descoped from the original 2001 Mars Surveyor concept where there were complimentary instruments aboard both the orbiter and lander, directly addresses this goal.
