Since when is it the responsibility of US taxpayers

to pay for everyone's wish list? If it's such a wonderful and inspirational idea, why not have ESA pay for it? I'm tired of parasites from around the world looking at our tax dollars as their personal banking account. Look, the idea was bogus from the start. Gore wanted his satellite, so they started work on it without any of the normal review or budgetary process. When it was pointed out that the mission was bogus, they spent tens of millions more adding instruments trying to actually make it something worthwhile. By the time they were done, they'd spent about $100 million. That doesn't count launch costs, ground support staff and operations expenses, ground station costs, etc. All for something to show pretty pictures. No thank you. That money could've been spent on something truly useful like a Discovery mission or about half the cost of a Mars lander.
