Hi Justin,
That's Rumsfeld's new right hand man...in DC.
NMD has an integral space aspect so this is a natural. This should unruffle some feathers - and ruffle others.
As conventional forces and manpower are in the crosshairs - the Air Force is the only halfways 'happy camper' right now as their role will increase exponentially as NMD roles out.
I think it is a 'prudent' decision. Though I do know a couple of folks who have been waiting longer for such a 'promotion' and are perhaps biting their tongues.
NASA should really be happy too - as NMD will eventually involve them in a key way.
NASA is the military's footstool. And as new Kennedy tape evidence bears out - NASA was really just formed just to fool people as to the nature of our space activities - which have ALWAYS had a military objective as priority #1.
Keeping everything in the hands of the army and the airforce was bad PR.
Best wishes,
