Yeah, Mark, I understand about mass blocking radiation - that's not the problem -
In one of my sci-fi pieces I used guided impacts to generate an atmosphere and free water on Mars - modified it for Hoffman's clathrates - so far so good -
But without a magnetosphere radiation now kills the life forms on the surface - not so good -
I knew that Mars' core had cooled; I knew that the molten core generated the magnetosphere; I knew that here on Earth our magnetosphere protects us from radiation - but did I take the next step, and properly infer that without a magnetosphere Mars would be pounded by radiation?
Oh no, tap tap tap tap tap
Now I wished away any possible back contamination problems, and I could get away with that - but this one is a show stopper -
What I need here is figures on the levels of radiation Mars gets pounded with, and the survival capacity of species of plants to that radiation -
I don't know who Dr Impact (our Masked Marvel) is, except for someone trying his best to make my life difficult - nobody serious is going to waste time on him, and they've repeatedly warned me about wasting my time on these bbs's, for that matter...
