We need more space lobbying groups like a fish needs a bicycle. I went through long years of the L-5 Society and related groups signing petitions, writing congressmen, and basically begging for NASA's crumbs. That's just not the way to do it any more, and I notice an improvement in that many space advocacy organizations, like the Planetary Society and others, are making an effort to go out and develop small missions on their own.
