Horizontal cuts of the vertical "file"? I think "file" is a typical CCD user vocabulary (which I don't always understand). Living in the wet, cold, cloudy Belgium has never encouraged me to deal with CCD imaging; it still is very expensive; maybe one day...
CCD does make a difference for faint objects.
