His name was T. O. Morgan and he was one hell of an engineer before he died in 1981 (Georgia Tech grad). Each of the four doors across the bottom of the 4 VAB entry ways weighs 120 tons and is made of reinforced concrete. Each of the 7 smaller vertical doors weighs 70 tons and is also make of reinforced concrete. Those doors were built to withstand Category 2 hurricanes and are very strong. I'm not saying that the scenario you describe would do no damage, but it might not be as bad as you think. The worst possible case would be if they hit where a Shuttle was stacked with the SRBs and ignited them. They never have all four Shuttles in the VAB being stacked at the same time. One is almost always back in California receiving major maintenance. They might possibly have two stacks in the VAB from time to time, but you'd need to know which doors they were behind. I'm pretty confident that they have very good fire suppression systems in the VAB. Having an SRB ignite inside has been a nightmare scenario since the beginning.

I knew the man who engineered those doors on the VAB
